One year ago this week, AMP launched Workplace by Facebook as our new internal communications platform. A lot has changed in our industry and at AMP since then and Workplace has played a critical role in helping our employees navigate the last 12 months.

Workplace represents the first time AMP has had an effective central internal communications platform which is accessible from local and global offices, breaking down geographic and cultural barriers.

Collectively, we’ve contributed more than 31,000 posts, 43,900 comments, and 282,000 reactions.

While the Workplace platform may have been the catalyst, the change that has taken place in how we communicate at AMP over the last 12 months is the real highlight.

In just one year, more than 6,300 employees have activated their accounts. That’s 94 per cent of our organisation in more than 10 countries.

Collectively, we’ve contributed more than 31,000 posts, 43,900 comments, and over 282,000 reactions. What that has meant in practice is a workforce that is openly sharing both their professional and personal stories – the inevitable triumphs and tribulations – in a meaningful way.

This sense of community built around Workplace has been critical during a year in which employee engagement has unsurprisingly been under pressure. Workplace has offered our leaders a platform to talk directly and in real time to employees about the business challenges we are facing as a company. It has helped drive a change in the way we talk to and learn from each other – especially in the face of adversity.

It’s also been a place for employees to talk amongst ourselves – to share insights about everything from finding a work/life balance and family photos to our strategy and our values as a company. It has allowed employees to bring their whole selves to work and allowed us to remind each other why we show up every day: to help our customers.

Helen Livesey, Group Executive Public Affairs and Chief of Staff, says the sense of community and engagement that has been catalysed by Workplace has been important to AMP in 2018.

“In what has been a challenging period, Workplace has given our leaders a platform to step up and communicate with our employees with authenticity and speed.

“The success of Workplace hasn’t necessarily been the platform itself, but the change in communication style that has happened around it – the focus on authentic and transparent conversations.

“To see this recognised with an IABC Gold Quill Award for the Workplace launch campaign was just the icing on the cake.”

Our acting CEO Mike Wilkins has spoken often about the need for AMP to help restore the community’s trust and confidence in our company and the industry. And this includes our employees.

Workplace is one key way that we are going about this every day. And we can’t wait to see what’s in store for year two.
