David Jones will open a new village format store at Malvern Central Shopping Centre on Thursday 12 September. The Centre is managed by AMP Capital Shopping Centres on behalf of the Centre’s owner, UniSuper.
AMP Capital Shopping Centres Managing Director Bryan Hynes says the introduction of David Jones to the centre will provide a major boost to the centre. “David Jones is a contemporary branded department store and their decision to open a village format store in Malvern Central is a significant event for both local residents and other retailers at the centre,” he said.
“To coincide with the opening of a David Jones store at the centre, UniSuper have invested in a significant upgrade of the centre’s amenities, travelators and lifts and have incorporated new internal design features to the centre. We have also made some exciting changes to the fashion specialty offer to complement the introduction of David Jones.
“UniSuper and AMP Capital are thrilled to reposition Malvern Central to offer an enhanced shopping experience for customers,” he said. The shopping centre’s catchment comprises more than 200,000 residents and includes the affluent suburbs of Toorak, South Yarra and Armadale.
The centre in 2012 celebrated its 25th birthday and has attracted a strong base of loyal customers since it first opened in 1987.
The centre, with a Gross Leasable Area of approximately 15,000 square metres, currently offers a Woolworths and 48 specialty stores in addition to the new David Jones store. The centre has easily accessible undercover parking and is an integral part of the Malvern retail landscape.
Malvern Central is the first major project to be delivered as part of AMP Capital Shopping Centre’s $2 billion development pipeline announced in late 2012, which includes the $390 million dollar development of Macquarie Centre in Sydney’s affluent north and $590 million development of Pacific Fair Shopping Centre on the Gold Coast.
