AMP Capital has announced a new scholarship programme with one of the world’s leading universities, UCL, which will help foster the learning and development of infrastructure professionals in the future.
The programme underpins AMP Capital’s belief in the ongoing demand and growth potential of infrastructure as an asset class.
AMP Capital will offer three scholarships per year for the next three years to students accepted into UCL’s MSc Infrastructure Investment and Finance (MSc IIF) course. Known as the AMP Capital Infrastructure Scholarships, the programme will provide successful candidates a scholarship towards their education costs as well as the opportunity to undertake a work placement with AMP Capital, a leading global investment manager with specialist expertise in infrastructure.
AMP Capital’s Global Head of Infrastructure Equity, Boe Pahari, said: “We are thrilled to partner with UCL, widely considered one of the best universities in the world, on a scholarship programme to encourage the next generation of talent in global infrastructure.
“The opportunities in infrastructure are vast, and in many cases untapped. For AMP Capital, it’s an honour to make a contribution towards nurturing the professionals of the future in an asset class we believe has enormous future growth potential as well as one that contributes so critically to the social needs of communities across the world.”
Dr Aris Pantelias, Programme Director MSc Infrastructure Investment and Finance, UCL, said: “The MSc IIF is a pioneering new course that enables students to develop the skills needed to finance and deliver complex infrastructure projects. It is the only programme of its kind in the world and students have unparalleled access to expertise from both renowned UCL academics and leading industry practitioners.
“There is a wealth of talent in the UK as well as the rest of the world and we want to ensure that financial constraints are no barrier to people with potential. Scholarships are always in high demand and the AMP Capital Infrastructure Scholarships are an invaluable opportunity to attract the brightest minds, regardless of background, and develop the next generation of infrastructure specialists to meet the complex demands of the modern world.”
UCL has been ranked the third best university in the UK and seventh in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings for 2016.
The AMP Capital Infrastructure Scholarships IIF recipients are determined by a two-tiered process, which involves an initial shortlisting of candidates undertaken within the UCL Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management and a subsequent interview by an AMP Capital panel.
The inaugural scholarship winners for the 2016-2017 academic year are: Yunkyu Gill, B.S. Chemical Engineering graduate from Korea’s Yonsei University; Clarence Li, BSc in Economics graduate from Xiamen University in China; and Haeseung Chung, BSc Environmental Engineering / Economics (double major) graduate from the Catholic University of Korea.
