The AMP Foundation is delighted to sponsor the launch of the 2024 STEPtember CEO Steppers. The CEO Steppers are a cohort of leaders who drive diversity and inclusion by championing STEPtember in their organisations and beyond.
We're proud to have CEOs of AMP and AMP Foundation joining this important network to inspire a widespread commitment to creating inclusive workplaces across the corporate sector.
Hosted by AMP in Sydney, the launch event aims to raise vital funds for STEPtember that will go towards a wide range of initiatives including early intervention, assistive technology, research and community programs to help support people with cerebral palsy.
Since 2010, STEPtember has grown to become one of Australia’s largest fundraising initiatives, helping raise both awareness and critical support for Australians with cerebral palsy, the most common physical disability in childhood.
Last year, AMP employees raised a total of $28,733 for STEPtember, dollar matched by the AMP Foundation, which amounted to over $57,000 in fundraising support.
Participants can take part in more than 40 activities to complete a daily target of 10,000 steps, such as walking, swimming, cycling, adaptive sports, frame running, basketball, pilates and gardening.
As well as providing vital funds, STEPtember represents a vehicle for real social change, supporting an international community of people with cerebral palsy, as well as their families and friends to raise awareness of a condition which affects 17 million people globally.
Cerebral palsy is a complex condition that affects an individual’s body movements or muscle coordination. Caused by damage to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth, cerebral palsy is a life-long condition that can impact a person’s motor skills, speech, movement and balance.
In Australia, a child is born with cerebral palsy every 20 hours, making it the most common physical disability in childhood.

Alexis George, AMP Chief Executive Officer said:
“I will be taking part in STEPtember this year and welcome all AMP employees to get involved, join the fundraiser and help raise awareness and support for CPA and the many Australians living with cerebral palsy today.”
“Making a meaningful contribution can make all the difference when it comes to early intervention, assistive technology, research and community programs all with the aim of lifting outcomes for people with cerebral palsy.”
Nicola Stokes, AMP Foundation Chief Executive Officer said:
“STEPtember is all about empowering Australians to creative positive change as we step up towards a more inclusive society for all Australians with disability. Last year, more than 120,000 Australians came together to raise more than $10 million for life-changing treatment and services in support of people with cerebral palsy.
“AMP Foundation has been a supporter of STEPtember since 2014 and over the last 10 years, AMP employees with dollar matching and support from the AMP Foundation have collectively raised over $570,000 towards a cause that affects so many Australians and their families each year.
“Together with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, we want to help more Australians with cerebral palsy live their best lives, as well as help direct funding towards early detection and prevention for future generations.”
